Great Blue Herons |
|
|---|
Herons figure in legends and stories told by many different people. Large, tall birds, herons step deliberately through shallow water, hunting for food. Their slow deliberate pace, regal stature, and imperious appearance draws the attention of onlookers. West Coast First Nation people believed that seeing a heron in the morning foretold a good fishing catch. In Celtic lore, herons were considered reincarnations of the goddess that looked after natural waters and protected travellers.
These photos of Great Blue Herons were taken at several locations in southwestern British Columbia.
