Canada Geese and Snow Geese

Geese

When I was a toddler on the ranch, my parents had a pair of domestic geese. Of all the animals, they terrified me the most. Many of the other animals liked me and I liked them. There were some I could avoid or they could avoid me. But the geese, they would see me and come running at me, hissing, and flapping their enormous wings. Wild geese seem to be less aggressive most of the time, although I get anxious when I see small children approach them.

The photographs in this collection were taken in the Lower Fraser Valley near Vancouver and in the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico.
